Deirdre “Dee” Rice, 67

NEW CUMBERLAND – Deirdre “Dee” Rice, 67, of New Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, after a brave and lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 3, 1946, in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Thelma (Fife) Evans.

Dee was a graduate of Oak Glen High School and also graduating from the Ohio Valley Business College. Dee was a former decal maker at Homer Laughlin China Co. She loved garage sales and playing cards with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Evans.

Surviving are her husband, Layman “Sonnie” Rice of New Cumberland, whom she married in 1966; two daughters, DeAnn (Robert Blair) Rice Eaton of Chester and Debra (Ed) Rexroth of Delaware; a son, David (Lorie) Rice of Illinois; and nine grandchildren, Carissa, Jamie, Evan, Tucker, Casey, Bailey, Ali, Grace, and Aubrey.

Private services were held by the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Arrangements were handled by the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell.
