Betty Huston Finley, 84

EAST LIVERPOOL – Betty Huston Finley, whose family farm later became Huston Road in East Liverpool, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. A resident of St. Clair Avenue for many years, she died at the age of 84.

She was born on March 14, 1929 in East Liverpool, an only child of the late James Lester and Thelma Wilszetta Wright Huston.

A 1947 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Betty remained a loyal supporter of her alma mater, and enjoyed being a part of her class activities and other functions of the ELHS Alumni Association. Following high school, she attended the Grace Martin Finishing School in Pittsburgh.

On June 17, 1950, she married Jess Raymond Finley at Longs Run Presbyterian Church by Rev. Laurence.

A longtime member of the 1st Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Betty sang in the church choir for many years alongside her husband. She also belonged to the Quota Club from which she recently received their Emeritus Award, belonged to various card clubs over the years, and generally enjoyed being busy and involved. Following her husband’s retirement in 1982, they devoted their spare time to world travel.

Betty first began working at the Commercial Decal, then the First National Bank and later became associated with Potters Bank & Trust Company as a loan officer, eventually becoming a vice-president.

Betty leaves behind her two sons, James Curtis Finley and his wife, Mary Pat Romine, of Skaneateles, N.Y., and Gregory Jess Finley and his wife, Sherri “Cheech” Finley, of Columbus, along with a step-daughter, Barbara Jeanne Finley of Irvine, Calif.

There are three grandchildren: Jessica Elizabeth Finley, Jess Robert Finley and Johnscott Gregory Finley; three step-grandchildren, Mike Trayser and Elizabeth Romine and her husband, John Clemenzi, and Cathy Chin and her husband, Gim, along with four step-great-grandchildren, Grace Romine, Kathryn Clemenzi, Finley and Virginia Chin.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home today, Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, where the family will be present from 4 to 6 p.m.

Services will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Monday, with Rev. Dr. Mark Dunn of the church officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
