Eula Jane Swain, 85

CHESTER – Eula Jane Swain, 85 formerly of New Cumberland and New Manchester, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at the Stone Pear Pavilion at Fox Crest in Chester after a lengthy illness. Eula led a Christian life and always put others before herself.

Born in then Pughtown, now New Manchester, on Jan. 1, 1929, Eula was a daughter of the late John E. and Anna M. Zeitler Herron.

A home maker and graduate of the former New Cumberland High School, she was a very involved member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church in New Manchester where she had served as an elder.

Very active in her children’s lives, Eula was a Blue Bird Leader for Camp Fire Girls, and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 147 in Weirton, and the Fairview Grange.

Her loving husband, Charles R. Swain, who she had married on April 15, 1949, passed just two months ago on Nov. 11, 2013. She joins her brothers, Carl, Glenn, Ray, John, Frank, and Harry Herron, who also preceded her in death.

Eula leaves behind her loving family including her daughters, Sondra Brokaw and husband Ray of Newell, and Carol Farish and husband Harper of New Manchester; her son, Alan Swain and wife Stacey of Peoria, Ariz.; her brother, Paul Herron and wife Delores of Beaver, Pa.; her grandchildren, Amy (Steve) Six, Holly (Doug) Siegel, Stacey (Ben) Locke, Trevor and Tiffany; four great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Madison, Karis, and Mackenzie; and her faithful canine companion, Max.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester with Pastor Brian Robinson officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 2-8 p.m. Private interment will be at the Union Cemetery in New Manchester.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the aids, nurses and staff at Stone Pear Pavilion and Valley Hospice who loved and cared for their mother and grandmother as if she was their own. They would also like to thank Eula’s special roommate, Penny Arnott who watched over her and made every day a little brighter.
