Caroline Holowaty, 93

ERIE, Pa. – Caroline Holowaty, 93 formerly of Wellsville, passed away of a lengthy illness, Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, in Erie, Pa., at the home of her daughter where she had been living. She was born in Ebensburg, Pa., on Dec. 20, 1920, a daughter to the late Dimetro and Rose (Tischok) Prokop.

Caroline was a graduate of Julia Richmond High School in New York City. She and her husband Andrew moved to Wellsville in 1946. Caroline worked at Sterling China before retiring in 1985. She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, the VFW Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus Auxillary, IBOP and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by her daughter: Virginia Nichols and her husband Lawrence of Fairview, Pa.; grandchildren: Kimberly Peebles of Lake City, Pa.; Kris Nichols and wife Tressa of Maryville, Tenn.; Jonathan Nichols and his wife Wendy of North Andover, Mass.; and Andrew Holowaty and his wife Kathy of Dublin, Ohio; great-grandchildren: Kyle, Kaylie and Karissa Peebles; Drew, Amanda, Ava and Evan Holowaty; Aidan, Ella, Elizabeth and Tristan Nichols; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Holowaty whom she married in 1940; a son Andrew Holowaty; four brothers: Mike, George, John and Alex Prokop; and a great-grandson Kaleb Peebles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Holy Trinity Parish, with Father Crumbley officiating. Family and friends will be gathering at the Wellsville Alumni Center for food and fellowship following the service.

Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.

Family will be present from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, to receive friends at the Wellsville Chapel of Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home.
