Ali Gatrell

YOUNGSTOWN — Ali Gatrell of Lisbon, was one of 11 Youngstown State University graduates to earn the university’s new Master’s of Accountancy degree during YSU’s Spring Commencement ceremony on May 6. They comprised the first class to complete the new graduate level accounting degree program.

“We are extremely excited and proud to be graduating our first class,” said Ray Shaffer, assistant professor of Accounting and Finance and director of the Master of Accountancy program.

“Our graduates will be going on to and are equipped to contribute immediately to international, national, regional and local companies, firms and governmental and nonprofit agencies. Most will also be sitting for and will be successful in passing the Uniform CPA Exam.”

The Master’s of Accountancy is a 30 semester hour program designed to prepare individuals for successful careers and to provide the advanced knowledge necessary for students to sit for the CPA exam.

YSU’s program is offered through the Accounting and Finance department in the Williamson College of Business Administration and is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Branzen Grodhaus

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville Lion’s Club has selected Branzen Grodhaus as the Student of the Month for March. He is the son of Danielle Grodhaus of Calcutta and Phillip Grodhaus of Wellsville.

His academic awards include the following: National Honor Society and 3.75 Honors. He has received awards for excellence in English I, English II, and Biology. His extracurricular athletic activities include the WHS basketball team where he was a captain for two years, and ITCL 2nd Team. He is also playing in the County All-Star Game. He was a member of the football team where he was a captain for two years, and his honors include ITCL All Conference for 3 years, All Columbiana County for two years, and All Quad County for two years. He will also be playing in the Penn Ohio Football Game this June. He is also involved in many high school clubs and activities. He is active in the Varsity W Club where he is the president, he is involved in Student Council, and the Positively Affecting Wellsville Students (PAWS) Mentor program at WHS for the 2016-2017 school year; and also volunteers his time with the Wellsville Fireman’s Parade, the Lindsey Salsberry Toy Drive, the Lion’s Club Breakfast with Santa, the SOI fish fries, and NHS Holiday Hustle 5k.

He plans to attend West Liberty University to continue his football career and major in education.

Jacob Green

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville Lions Club has selected Jacob Green as the Student of the Month for April. He is the son of Erin and Jeff Green of Wellsville.

His academic awards include the following: National Honor Society and A Honor Roll. He received awards of excellence in Spanish III and Personal Development and Resource Management.

His extracurricular athletic activities include the WHS basketball team where he was a 3 year letter winner, and two year Co-Captain. He received ITCL 2nd Team and Honorable Mention for Columbiana County. He played in the Columbiana County All-Star game and was a four year letter winner on the golf team.

He is involved in many high school clubs and activities and is active in the Varsity W Club, the Positively Affecting Wellsville Students (PAWS) Mentor program at WHS for the2016-2017 school year, Lindsey Salsberry Toy Drive, the Lion’s Club Breakfast with Santa, the SOI fish fries, and NHS Holiday Hustle 5k; and helped at the Wellsville High School Annual Showcase.

He plans to attend West Liberty University, to major in Sports Management.
