New Township Officer

St. Clair Township’s newest patrolman, Blake Wilson of Hammondsville, was sworn in during Tuesday’s township trustee meeting by Columbiana County Chief Prosecutor John Gamble. The new part-time officer’s badge was pinned on by his mother, Tracy Gamble. Wilson completed the police academy at Eastern Gateway Community College in 2012, and served as a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department corrections officer from 2012-14. He also worked as a patrolman for the Saline Township Police Department from 2013 through the present. Chief Brian McKenzie said Wilson is currently the department’s only part-time officer, with 12 full-time officers, including the chief, which he said is the same staffing level it was at prior to Chief Don Hyatt’s retirement. It is possible additional manpower will be hired, depending on “how it plays out in the next couple of months,” McKenzie said. (Submitted)
