Columbiana County Common Pleas
A Salem man was sentenced to prison for assaulting a guard at the county jail and acting in a disruptive manner.
Zachary A. Kenst, 24, of Arch Street, was sentenced by county Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam to nine months in prison after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a jail guard, criminal damaging and possessing a deadly weapon in jail.
The crimes occurred on Feb. 15 while Kenst was in a detox holding cell at the county jail. Kenst broke off a sprinkler head and starting using it to bang on the cell door. When a guard tried to escort Kenst to a shower, Kenst reportedly attempted to knee him in the groin, striking him in the thigh instead, and then head-butting the guard in the chin.
