A Lawrenceville volunteer firefighter looks at the aftermath of a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 30 late Tuesday afternoon. The names of the male drivers, both of whom were trapped and had to be extricated, were unavailable at press time. The driver of the Kia Forte was flown by STAT MedEvac helicopter to Pittsburgh. The driver of the Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The Kia’s roof had to be removed to allow access to the driver. Preliminary reports from the accident scene said that the Kia driver was westbound on U.S. 30, went left of center and struck the eastbound pickup truck head-on. The accident happened at the crest of the hill near Crummitt Lane and the Pennsylvania state line, closing the highway from about 3:45-5:45 p.m. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating. Also responding were the Chester Police Department, the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, the Chester-Newell Ambulance Service, LifeTeam EMS and the Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Department.
