Alford waives right to hearing
NEW CUMBERLAND–A Chester man facing an attempted murder charge has waived his right to a preliminary hearing, sending his case to a higher court.
Dalton Lewis Alford, 18, appeared before Hancock County Magistrate Michael White on Monday but waived the hearing that would have determined probable cause. His case likely will be heard by the Hancock County grand jury in January.
Alford is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend with a kitchen knife and a rock on Nov. 14. The altercation in the 3000 block of Lincoln Highway (U.S. Route 30) happened as the ex-girlfriend and a female friend were attempting to drop off a car.
Alford has been charged with attempted murder and domestic assault. He remains in the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville on a $260,000 bond.
