Altercation leads to Salem man’s arrest
SALEM – A Salem man is in the Columbiana County jail charged with misdemeanor assault following an incident Saturday night.
Police said Jonathan Mullet, 23, of 1491 W. Pine Lake Road, was arrested after police were called to the 500 block of S. Broadway Avenue at 10:07 p.m. regarding an altercation.
Det. Dave Talbert said one man sustained “some type of puncture wound” as a result of a physical altercation. He said the wound appeared to be minor and non-life-threatening.
“The victim was up and walking around,” he said and did not characterize it as a stabbing. No weapon was seen by witnesses or was found.
“I’m not so sure it was a a stabbing,” he said, adding the incident took place in the parking lot in the 500 block of S. Broadway Avenue.
The victim, Christopher Ewing, 30, lka 11411 Gavers Road, Hanoverton, was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center by ambulance. He was treated and released.
Ewing told police the attacker went into one of the bars and he could identify him.
When police spoke to Mullet about the incident he denied any knowledge of it. But after speaking with witnesses officers placed him in custody and charged him with assault and transported him to the county jail.
The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit responded to assist for an article/weapon search. Perry Township Police assisted in searching for the suspect.
