Man charged after allegedly attacking elderly man
LISBON – A Lisbon man was charged Wednesday night after he allegedly attacked an elderly handicapped man in his own home and then shot multiple times at a Jeep occupied by another person.
A May 29 preliminary hearing and pretrial were set in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Thursday for Jared M. Coil, 26, Steubenville Pike, Lisbon, who faces charges of felonious assault, assault and having weapons while intoxicated for his alleged actions during the shooting incident.
According to the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office, which filed the charges, Coil went into the home of Robert Marshall, state Route 172, Lisbon, jumped on him while he was in bed and held him down.
Coil reportedly took a .38 caliber handgun, which was under the blankets on Marshall’s bed. He allegedly ran from the room, but returned and threw the handgun at Marshall, claiming the gun had jammed. Next Coil reportedly jumped on Marshall again and picked up a .45 caliber handgun from under the bed.
Marshall told deputies Coil again ran from the room and Marshall heard gunshots behind his house.
Deputies then believe Coil went outside, firing several rounds into a 1997 purple Jeep, which is owned by Marshall, which was behind the house. The Jeep was being driven by Nicholas Burson at the time. Deputies reportedly found where the vehicle was struck at least four times and a slug was recovered from inside the back of the vehicle. There were also seven spent shell casings found.
Coil appeared by video from the county jail in front of Judge Carol Robb on Thursday morning. Bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety.
Coil’s girlfriend, Brandi Cope, 20, Holmes Wood Drive, Winona, also faces a falsification charge in county Municipal Court after allegedly giving deputies a false statement while they were investigating the shooting incident. Cope reportedly admitted to lying, adding she was afraid of what her boyfriend would do to her if she told deputies the truth.
