Columbiana County Sheriff Reports for 5-7
Terry McElroy, Hamilton Road, East Palestine, reported at 11:58 a.m. Sunday he was allowing a woman, Lauren Czerwinski, keep cattle on his property until she could get the property she owns across the road fenced in. A few days ago he saw a gate open and he attempted to secure it, but a bull was near the gate. He tapped it on the head with his cane to get it to move away from the gate and now Czerwinski is angry, threatening to “expletive kill them” if they touch her animals again. McElroy said he only wanted her to remove her cattle at this point.
Candy Lauer, Mansfield Road, Negley, reported at 5:05 p.m. Saturday she and her father’s wife had an appointment to get tires put on the car. They left Lauer’s children home with her cousin, Shena Kneid. Lauer called home to check on the children and Kneid discovered both Lauer’s children and her own were not there. Kneid had been sleeping and her sister, Cheyane Cooper had walked into the home and taken the children to Boardman to go skating. They had searched for the children for about two hours before Cooper called and stated they were on the way back.
James Metalik, 43, Riffle Road, New Waterford, was charged with domestic violence after deputies were called at 12:17 a.m. Monday to the home where a 16-year-old boy told deputies his stepfather was fighting with his mother. He had gone to help his mother, who was yelling for help and reportedly found Metalik had a strong grip on her head. He separated them and his mother told him Metalik choked her and grabbed her by the hair. She also had a mark where he allegedly punched her in the cheek.
A deer struck Deputy Caleb Wycoff’s cruiser, which was eastbound on U.S. Route 30 just east of Freedman Road at 4:46 a.m. Monday. The cruiser was dented.
Rodney Golden, Oakdale Avenue, Wellsville, reported at 10:14 p.m. Monday he heard his dog barking and went outside where he found the storm door open to his basement. He did not find anyone and did not believe anyone got inside the basement.
Brent Rhodes, Latta Road, East Palestine, reported at 4:28 p.m. Sunday a neighbor dispute over a right of way access road located on Richard Douglas’ property. Both were told to contact their attorneys about the civil issue and stay away from each other.
Don Cooper, Amarillo Avenue, Negley, reported at 8:50 p.m. Sunday there was an open door at a nearby home. Deputies and St. Clair Township officers checked the home, but nothing was found out of place.
Trudy Andrews, state Route 39, Wellsville, reported at 5:37 p.m. Monday her boyfriend took her vehicle without permission. She was following her vehicle while talking to dispatchers and deputies were able to catch up with her Pontiac Grand Am on Boyd Road at Bill Smith Road. Shayne Stone was cited with driving under suspension and OVI after allegedly testing .337 BAC. Andrews did not want to pursue charges involving him taking her vehicle.
