Columbiana County Sheriff Reports for 5-2
Jeffrey Smith, Bolivar Road, Wellsville, reported at 3:33 p.m. Thursday he was struck in the eye by his 15-year-old stepson. The boy was arguing with his mother about not wanting to go to work and it escalated until Smith thought the boy was going to hit her. He stepped in front of the boy to hold him back and was struck twice in the face. The boy was taken to Tobin Center and charged with domestic violence.
A West Main Street, Washingtonville, woman reported at 5:46 a.m. April 21 she believed someone was living under her home. She also talked about other things not making any sense. Deputies spoke to her roommate, who said she is on medication.
Tammy Johnson, East High Street, Salineville, was cited with fictitious plates and no license following a traffic stop on state Route 39 just east of Southern Local at 12:44 a.m. Tuesday.
Linda Swearingen, Brandon Drive, Wellsville, reported at 11:38 p.m. Monday she and her husband are divorcing and he told her he was kicking her out of the house. Deputies explained the eviction process.
Carl Marks, state Route 164, Lisbon, reported at 10:27 a.m. Wednesday he has been setting traps to deal with an ongoing ground hog problem. Someone has been messing with some of his traps and one was taken on Tuesday, along with the stake which holds it down.
Randell Gartrell, Steven Drive, Alliance, reported on Monday he found sometime between 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday someone entered his house and took items.
Sherry Wright, Millrock Road, Negley, reported a possible domestic issue at 11:52 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies first met Dan Chitwood, who told deputies he and Wright had an argument and he went for a walk. Wright told deputies he dragged her during the argument, but she was uncooperative about filling out a statement. He claimed she fell because she was intoxicated, he tried to pick her up and she fell again.
An out of control woman was reported on West Main Street, Washingtonville, at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies spoke to EMS, who said the woman was making threats toward herself and others. She was placed in the ambulance and taken to Salem Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
Michelle Burge of Country Video, state Route 172, Hanoverton, reported at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday Amanda McAllister had rented three videos and had not returned them. Burge said McAllister was contacted at her home and said she would return them by Tuesday morning, but failed to do so.
Mary Foster, East Martin Street, East Palestine, reported at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday her daughter, Haley Foster, had been living with David Gilbert on Leslie Road. They argued and she moved out. Foster had bought a washer and dryer for her daughter, but Gilbert is refusing to give them back along with other personal items. Deputies explained the sheriff’s department does not get involved in retrieving personal property and she should call an attorney. Gilbert reportedly told another family member if anyone comes onto the property they would be shot.
Rachel Kinsey, Carmel Achor Road, Negley, reported at 3:56 p.m. Wednesday she saw a small black vehicle drive slowly past her house while he son was getting off the bus. The vehicle then came back past with the window down. The neighbor told her she saw the same vehicle with a man looking toward her house with a set of binoculars.
Kevin Barley, state Route 172, Minerva, reported at 6:46 p.m. Wednesday a woman came to their fruit stand and stole $20 in ones from the honor box container. There are pictures of the woman and the vehicle license plate number on their video surveillance. Deputies found the vehicle and the matter is under investigation.
Bill Grimm, Bowman Road, Homeworth, reported at 9:08 p.m. Tuesday someone stole a Henry Golden Boy .22 long rifle from his bedroom closet. Three people had been hired to clean the walls and floor on Tuesday. The gun was entered into the stolen gun database and Dawn Dennis, the manager of Alliance Loan, reported on Wednesday someone sold the gun to them on Tuesday for $250. The weapon has been placed on hold.
