Men arrested for multiple break-ins

LISBON – New Waterford police charged three people allegedly involved in at least two local house break-ins after police served a search warrant at their home.

New Waterford Chief Dan Haueter said East Palestine police and the sheriff’s office worked with his department on the case, which led to a search warrant being issued for apartment 107 on Pinewood Drive in the village.

Haueter said he hopes the efforts of officers from the three departments, along with K-9s Jesy of the sheriff’s office and Toney of East Palestine, help to put an end to some of the burglaries in the area.

“Everybody did good work,” Haueter said. “They put in long hours and pitched in.”

A March 10 preliminary hearings were set in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Tuesday for Jessica M. Greathouse, 30, and Sherman W. Greathouse III, 34, both charged with receiving stolen property after police executing a search warrant at their apartment on Saturday found a long list of stolen items.

Found in the apartment were a 42-inch television, Xbox 360 Kinect with an additional controller, Olympus digital camera, two Kodak Easy Share cameras, a Wahl’s men’s grooming kit, Playstation Two, two Motorola walkie talkies, Victoria Secret leopard print box, a box from a knock-off set of Beats headphones, a knock-off Tiffany’s necklace and several other items of jewelry.

The items have been identified as taken from two homes on McClosky Road and Y-Camp Road, police said. The items totaled $1,150 in value.

Sherman Greathouse was also fined $100 in Municipal Court for driving under suspension.

A March 11 preliminary hearing and pretrial was set for Mary B. Kiehl, 29, also living in the Pinewood Drive, New Waterford, apartment, who has been cited with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug abuse instruments. Kiehl was allegedly found to have a full prescription bottle with 290 lorazepam pills for which she did not have prescription. She also was allegedly found with two syringes and a burnt spoon with white residue when the search warrant was served.

Although court documents note Kiehl also had other jewelry in her possession, there were no related charges filed in court.

Haueter said he and other officers are still contacting those who have reported burglaries in their homes in recent months. He still has a lot of items found in the apartment which have not been identified by their owners. He wants those who have lost property to look at the items at the New Waterford police station to see if their belongings are there.

Once it is determined who the items belong to, additional charges could be filed against Kiehl or the Greathouses.

Additionally, Haueter said a search warrant was executed on Tuesday at a storage unit on the south side of Columbiana which was being rented by the Greathouses. Police reportedly found additional drug paraphernalia inside the unit and the matter remains under investigation with possible charges pending.
