Man sentenced to prison for theft of three cars

LISBON – A Lisbon man who drove off in three vehicles in three days last June was sentenced to 21 months in prison Thursday by Judge Scott Washam in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

Steven E. Slagle, 24, Lincoln Way, pleaded guilty in January to three counts receiving stolen property. He was involved, along with Robert Ketchum, in the theft of a pickup belonging to John Zoellers from the Elks lot in East Liverpool on June 15. The vehicle was later recovered on Oliver Street.

Then on June 16, Slagle had a pickup belonging to James Allmon which was taken from a parking lot near the fire department in East Liverpool and later recovered on Cadmus Street.

Finally, on June 17, Slagle had a Pontiac Sunfire owned by Amber Adkins. The car was taken from the parking lot of the Oasis and later found at Gilkinson’s Short Stop.

Assistant County Prosecutor Ryan Weikart pointed out Slagle has prior felonies, which included theft of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering for a break-in at the East Palestine schools and arson. In each case, Slagle reportedly violated the terms of his probation.

When asked during his presentencing investigation about his sources of generating income, Weikart noted Slagle honestly replied, “I get by by committing crimes.”

Weikart had asked Washam for 24 months, while Slagle’s attorney, Kelly Linger had requested six months, the least amount.

“I’m at a loss to understand your behavior,” Washam told Slagle. “It would appear you have a total disrespect for other people’s property.”
