East Liverpool Police for 3-13
Joseph R. Murphy, 19, Center Street, was cited for improper backing Monday after he reportedly backed a pickup truck on East Fifth Street, losing control and causing it to strike a parked van owned by Michael W. Russell, St. Clair Avenue. Murphy reportedly told police he was “being stupid” when he began backing, and witnesses reported seeing him back around the corner from Walnut Street, onto East Fifth, where his truck struck the other vehicle.
Officers responded Tuesday night to a North Shadylane address to do a welfare check on a 6-month-old baby, with a caller saying heroin was being used in the apartment. In addition, the caller reported Herbert Jones, 26, Midland, Pa., was in the apartment and had an outstanding warrant. Officers said the resident allowed them in to check the baby, which was found to be fine, and, when asked if Jones was in the apartment, she initially said he was not. She gave consent for the officers to look around, and Jones was found hiding in a bedroom closet. Next to the closet, officers reported finding an ashtray containing a marijuana cigarette. He was charged with criminal trespass and possession of marijuana, and Jones also had an outstanding warrant.
