East Liverpool Police for 2-12

Responding to a report of a fight Sunday on East Fifth Street, officers found Daniel Springer, 39, sitting on his front steps, bleeding from his right ear. Springer told officers that he had been struck in the head with a baseball bat after he confronted between four and six black men about selling drugs on his street. He said the men fled in a dark-colored SUV. Springer was transported to the emergency room by Tri-County ambulance and later flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Officers attempted to interview a man who reported seeing the end of the assault, but he could not be located.

After a caller reported someone in an alley behind Pennsylvania Avenue trying to steal items from a vehicle, officers reported finding Duallen Stanford, 21, state Route 170, Negley, lying on the ground near a jacked-up vehicle. He reportedly said he was working on a friend’s car and gave a false name when asked. Told to obtain his identification documents, Stanford went inside the nearby house but hid in a bedroom, where he was found hiding under the covers. His friend said the car in question was not hers, but a neighbor’s, and said she had no idea why Stanford was tampering with it. She provided officers with his actual identification. Stanford reportedly told officers he was attempting to cut the catalytic converter from the neighbor’s car. He was charged with falsification, possession of criminal tools and criminal damaging.
