Joshua R. Smith, 31, Tippecanoe, pleaded guilty last week in county Common Pleas Court to two counts of illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises. He was found eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction and was sentenced to a three-year probation program.
One of the guns, a Rohm Santheim/Brenz .22-caliber derringer style handgun, was ordered destroyed. A motion is being filed by Smith’s attorney, James Hartford, seeking the return of the second gun, believed to be Smith’s grandfather’s service weapon, a 1911 A1A U.S. Army .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Smith had the two guns in his possession at the Fox’s Den Night Club in Salem on Jan. 1, 2013.
David W. Gamble, 18, Garfield Avenue, East Palestine, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property for driving a EZ-GO golf cart from the East Palestine County Club on May 6, 2013. He faced up to an 18-month prison sentence and a $5,000 fine. Gamble has been found eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction and was placed on a four-year probation program.
William S. Athey Jr., 33, 18th Street Heights, Wellsville, pleaded guilty to permitting drugs of abuse, a first-degree misdemeanor. Athey was initially charged with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He was sentenced to two years probation. Athey had more than 200 grams but less than one kilogram of marijuana in his possession on Aug. 23, 2012.
Gene B. Wright, 31, New Cumberland, W.Va. pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and illegal conveyance of a drug of abuse onto the grounds of a detention facility. According to court documents, Wright had a package of heroin in his shoe while in a holding cell at the St. Clair Township Police Department on Jan. 19, 2013. He faces up to four years in prison, a five-year license suspension and a $12,500 fine. Sentencing is set for April 4.
Robert G. Weyand, 42, Clark Street, East Liverpool, stipulated to violating his probation on a domestic violence conviction. He was sentenced to remain in jail for four days, attend and successfully complete a multiple offender program and a medication assisted program, and continue his four-year probation.
Christopher J. Croxall, 21, Riffle Road, Rogers, stipulated to violating the terms of his intervention in lieu of conviction probation plan. The program was terminated and he was ordered to continue his three-year probation under the same terms as before. Croxall had pleaded guilty to theft on Dec. 13, 2012 for taking vicodin belonging to Frank Milhoan in March 2011.
Damin M. Hall, 21, Main Street, Wellsville, stipulated to violating the terms of his probation. On Feb. 23, 2012, Hall had pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to four years probation. He was ordered to continue with his previous probation with the addition to spending eight weekends in the county jail starting on Feb. 21. Hall without invitation went into the home of Shirley Wells, Maple Avenue, Wellsville on July 31, 2011 and threatened to harm Eric Baker.

Cheryl Thorne, Salem, vs. Danny Shultz, Salem, petition dismissed.
Tiffany A. Felger vs. Administrator of Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, et al., case settled and dismissed.
Brian E. Stowers, East Liverpool, vs. Davena A. Stowers, East Liverpool, case dismissed due to reconciliation.
Timothy J. Blake, East Palestine, vs. Deanna L. Blake, St. Cloud, Fla., divorce granted.
