Man pleads not guilty following car chase

LISBON – The Columbiana man who led police on a high-speed chase Saturday pleaded not guilty to the vehicular charges Columbiana County Municipal Court Monday.

Sheldon L. Robinson, 38, Crestview Road, appeared via video before Judge Carol Ann Robb and entered the not guilty pleas on charges of driving under child support suspension, reckless operation, stop sign, speeding and use of unauthorized plate.

The county sheriff’s office and U.S. Marshals were looking for Robinson for more than a week before his arrest Saturday. He is a suspect in a string of burglaries in Columbiana and Trumbull counties, and Hancock County, W.Va.

Robinson was taken into custody near Calcutta following the chase that wound through the southern part of the county and topped out at more than 100 miles per hour.

Judge Robb scheduled a May 16 pretrial for Robinson on the charges and a recognizance bond was set at $5,000. A cash/surety bond was set at $50,000 and preliminary hearing scheduled for the same day on a charge of failure to comply.

It is not the first time Robinson has appeared in county court. Online records show he has cases dating back to 1995, including prior traffic violations and criminal cases.
