House fire leads to drug arrest
WELLSVILLE – Wellsville Police officers assisting village firefighters at the scene of a house fire Saturday afternoon discovered suspected marijuana in the home, leading to arrest of a Steubenville man.
Officers arrived at 856 Aten Ave. before 4 p.m. to assist firefighters from Wellsville and Highlandtown volunteer departments with traffic control at the scene. Police came into contact with 21-year-old Troy A.T. Robinson, 766 Brady Ave. No. 6, Steubenville, who was inside the house when a suspected electrical short touched off a small fire in the second-floor attic.
Inside the house, officers discovered suspected marijuana on the kitchen table. After speaking with Robinson, police checked his information and discovered an arrest warrant from the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department. Robinson was placed under arrest and charged with misdemeanor drug abuse. Following booking, he was turned over to county sheriff’s deputies.
Wellsville Police have not stated what, if any involvement in drug activity there may have been between Robinson and John E. Bowles, who lived in the rental home.
Robinson was cited for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop on state Route 7 on Oct. 28 of last year, according to a Liverpool Township police report.
Bowles was a passenger in the car during the stop, after which Robinson was found to have a baggy of suspected marijuana in his pocket. Though not charged, a large amount of cash was confiscated from Bowles.
