Randy Schneider, who is co-owner and general manager of a new dining establishment coming to downtown East Liverpool, admits that he cannot even count the times he has been asked if Renovatio is his last name.

Currently he and his business partner Craig Cozza are converting the former Potters National Bank, which is located at the corner of Washington and Fifth streets, to a taproom and restaurant.

Renovatio is not the last name of anyone involved with the project, Schneider explains. “Renovatio’s is Latin for rebirth, and we thrive to be part of the rebirth of downtown East Liverpool,” he added, citing its rich history.

With their sights firmly set on opening before the Fourth of July, the men have tailored an establishment, saluting the rich history of the area, while crafting an establishment with one of the area’s largest craft beer and wine lists. Schneider explains that while there will be a huge focus on rare brews, eclectic wines and top shelf liquors, it will be paired with a small menu of exquisite cuisine. “(This facility) was born from (a vision) togetherness and a desire to provide a warm hangout space.”

Cozza agrees that the base building is amazing, and he wasn’t expecting too much difficulty converting the former bank to a dining facility. “We bought the building not knowing what to do with it,” he said, while singing the building’s praises. “You cannot build (structures) like that anymore.”

Both men look forward to getting involved in the East Liverpool community through their business.

Local companies are involved in the project as well, Schneider explained. Veterans Energy Group is handling the demolition, while New Castle School of Trades’ students are doing the railing for the top of the rooftop deck on top of the former drive-thru, the staircase and the bicycle racks for the drive-thru bays. He stresses that Renovatio’s will not being doing away with the ATM, which has been a worry for the community.

Cozza, who operates four ProBike + Run shops in the Pittsburgh area, and Schneider hope to see East Liverpool also become a haven for fitness. The men are working with East Liverpool Health Commissioner Carol Cowan to bring bike routes and lanes to downtown.

“It’s all about local with us (and) promoting the local breweries, wineries, community and health. We look to help rebrand the area for active bicyclists, running groups and community partnerships. Our outdoor patio will offer a place to be merry, dog friendly, fire pits and a rooftop deck (on the drivethru, which borders Fourth and Washington streets),” Schneider added.

A large safe in the rear of the former bank lobby, which will seat up to 98 diners, will be kept intact. Not only will the safe serve as a backdrop for the unique dining experience, its safety deposit boxes will be part of the restaurant’s mug club, offering members storage.

Once completed, Schneider expects the restaurant to employ 10 to 13 individuals.
