Commissioners approve evaluation of jail contract

LISBON — With the contract with GEO, the company responsible for operating the county jail, scheduled to end after this year, county commissioners on Wednesday gave Chairman Mike Halleck permission to have the current contract evaluated.

Halleck will have Peter Argeropulos, a consultant they are familiar with, look over the contract and negotiate if needed. The contract with Argeropulos is not to exceed $5,000.

After the meeting, Halleck said the county is always looking at the costs associated with the operation of the jail.

Commissioners also agreed to appropriate $5,000 to the 4-H program this month. Halleck said while commissioners always try to help the 4-H program, including providing them space for county offices, the commissioners do not always have money available this early in the year for 4-H.

Halleck talked about what a good program it is for young people in the county and hopes they can give 4-H more money this year than they have been able to do in the past.

Additionally, the commissioners voted:

— To appropriate $60,000 in carryover funds in Recorder Theresa Bosel’s budget to this year’s budget.

— The send another letter supporting the completion of U.S. Route 30 through the RTIP Build Grant.

— To approve the placement of frost law weight limit signs on 28 roads in Madison Township at the request of township trustees.
