Beaver Local levy renewal push underway

LISBON — With the Beaver Local Board of Education placing a 4.618 mill levy renewal on the May 7 the the ballot for the primary, Superintendent Eric Lowe said the push to inform the public is already underway.

A second meeting of those working on the levy is planned for 2 p.m., March 3. Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to attend. The group will be looking at strategies for getting people out to the polls and promoting the levy on social media.

The levy, which failed by fewer than 100 votes in November, is a renewal and will continue to generate $1.2 million toward the district’s operations to cover maintenance, utilities and staff salaries.

In other financial matters, treasurer Stacy Williams told the board a final payment was recently made, which pays off the Ohio Water Development Authority loan which allowed the school to tap into the water line. Williams told the board that should free up about $16,000 annually, which was previously going toward the loan.

Additionally, Williams reported to the board the 2016-2017 Medicaid audit was recently completed by the program and she has learned the school is entitled to receive $50,000 reimbursement for that school year.

With a lot of recent delays and closures, as well as so much going on in the classroom this time of year, Lowe said a decision has been made to cancel prescheduled two hour delays. School will now start at the regular time on Feb. 20, March 6 and March 20. However, school will not be in session the day after parent teachers conferences on Friday, Feb. 15 and Monday, Feb. 18, when the school will be closed for President’s Day.
