Allen tapped as interim director

EAST LIVERPOOL — Service-Safety Director Brian Allen has been named interim city planning director while the search continues for a replacement for David Dawson, who left the position last week.

Allen is not receiving any compensation for the additional work, according to Mayor Ryan Stovall, who placed him in the position until a new director can be hired.

The deadline for applying is Friday, and Stovall said he hopes to have someone hired by next week.

The position was vacated in December by long-time Planning Director William Cowan, who accepted another job near Columbus, and Dawson was hired from among about 11 applicants.

He had worked about 48 days when he and Stovall reportedly came to a mutual agreement for him to step down after they had a difference of opinion on hiring a full-time zoning inspector.
