Local teens charged with criminal trespassing

EAST LIVERPOOL — Two area 18-year-olds were charged by city police after reportedly being found with three juvenile girls at the former East Liverpool Motor Lodge late at night.

Charged with criminal trespass were Jarrod Lee Westover, state Route 45, Lisbon, and Mason A. Taylor, Oakmont Avenue, East Liverpool, with Taylor also charged with driving under suspension.

The three girls, ages 14, 15 and 16, were all from East Palestine, and officers sent information about the incident to Juvenile Court for possible charges against them.

According to reports, officers responded at 9:55 p.m. Jan. 7 to an alarm activation at the former motel, now owned by Providence Health, and began checking the various entrances.

Captain Patrick Wright, who was checking the north side, began yelling that someone was fleeing, prompting other officers, including K-9 Nero, to run around the building where they reported finding a vehicle containing the five suspects, all of whom initially denied having been inside the facility.

Wright found a large window broken out, and officers reported that Mason and Westover had shards of glass on their clothing.

According to reports, Taylor eventually told police all five had entered the shuttered facility through the broken window, saying he and Westover wanted to show the girls the swimming pool inside.

Officers reported finding a .44-caliber handgun tucked near the front passenger seat of the vehicle, which was towed from the scene by Tice’s.

Mason and Westover were scheduled to appear Monday in East Liverpool Municipal Court but neither appeared, and bench warrants were issued for both. Bond for Taylor is set at $15,000 cash/surety, while Mason’s bond is $5,000 cash/surety.
