With the start of Labor Day weekend having taken place Friday, several members of the community showed support to the troops with a flag- raising ceremony at noon at Power GM on state Route 170. Close to three dozen people witnessed members of the St. Clair Township Police Department, Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion Riders of East Liverpool Post 374 and the Vietnam Veterans Association hang the 15-foot-by-25-foot flag (provided by American Flags and Poles) on the dealership’s 60-foot pole. Power GM sales manager Denny Zimmet raised the flag to the top before lowering it back to half-staff. The Tri-State Veterans Color Guard also performed the national anthem and played taps following a 21-gun salute. (Photo by Steve Rappach)
