EL man sentenced for spitting on deputy

LISBON — An East Liverpool man who spat on a sheriff’s deputy was granted community control, but first he was ordered to serve 60 days in the county jail.

Jason Holloway, 37, Church Street, pleaded guilty in April to harassment with a bodily substance. He appeared for sentencing on Thursday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court before Judge Scott Washam.

Chief Assistant County Prosecutor John Gamble said in the plea agreement reached in the case, he had agreed not to take a position on Holloway’s request for community control.

While Holloway’s own defense attorney, Kelly Linger, noted Holloway has a somewhat lengthy criminal past, she also noted a recent stroke has changed his perspective on the way he has been living his life. She noted Holloway is living back with his parents and is in the process of getting his life back on track.

Washam pointed out Holloway’s record shows he continually uses drugs and alcohol and hopes he is serious about making changes. Washam placed Holloway on a two-year community control program, but also sentenced him to spend 60 days in jail, starting immediately.

“I certainly hope you take this opportunity to reflect and determine where you want to be going forward,” Washam said.

The charge against Holloway was for spitting on Deputy Richard Kimble on March 25, 2017 when Kimble had placed Holloway into custody for another matter.
