Slide forces delays

EAST LIVERPOOL — As a preventative measure, East Liverpool Mayor Ryan Stovall and Service-Safety Director Brian Allen decided late Tuesday to have a hillside area about the size of a football field cleared of trees and brush along the southbound lanes of state Route 11 south of the Route 170 exit in Calcutta.

The Ohio Department of Transportation had been at the site earlier in the day prior to a slide in the afternoon, which followed an initial slide on Monday, officials said.

Allen said the move to eliminate the trees and brush was to keep the potential of trees from again coming down onto the roadway after dark and possibly having a passing motorist hit the items and be injured as a result.

X-treme Demolition of Wellsville, owned by Dan Galeoti, handled the clearing of the area.
