BDD to layoff 13

LISBON — The Board of Developmental Disabilities on Wednesday approved the layoff of 13 employees as of May 25, 2018, the last day the CCBDD will operate the Adult Service and Support program for their older clients.

Superintendent Bill Devon said the nine people currently attending the facility, along with the families and caregivers, are already being told about the 12 other choices throughout the county. However, with the CCBDD getting out of another direct-care program, there was no longer a need for the 13 positions.

Following an executive session near the beginning of the meeting, the board voted unanimously to lay off two workshop specialist II positions; one workshop nurse, an LPN; one workshop specialist II/nurse substitute; one personal service assistant; one vehicle operator aide; three vehicle operator II/aides; three vehicle operator II positions; and a part-time school custodian.

Devon said the board will be utilizing that part of the building, which is next door to the board offices, for other purposes in the future.

The board also approved opening the Robert Bycroft Education Association contract at the end of the school year. The current contract expires on Aug. 31. Devon said they will begin negotiations with the RBEA during the summer.

In other matters:

— An employer recognition dinner was held on March 27 at the CCCTC, which was well attended by about 70 people involved in hiring clients. Additionally, Devon said he recently visited clients at both the EDI South and EDI Central workshops and reported the clients seem happy.
