Village names new administrator

WELLSVILLE — A former Buckeye Water District foreman has taken on the role of village administrator.

During Tuesday’s meeting, village council unanimously approved the appointment of Marcus Dalrymple to serve as village administrator — made at the recommendation of Mayor Nancy Murray.

Dalrymple takes over for Rick Williams, who served on a temporary basis following the resignation of Jerry Medley in December. Williams also served as zoning officer, and will continue in that role.

“I’d like to thank Rick Williams for filling in the temporary position before we hired Mr. Dalrymple,” Murray said.

Joined in council chambers by his wife Amy and daughter Gia, Dalrymple said he is looking forward to the position.

“I just want to do the best I can,” Dalrymple said. “I just want to work with everybody in a team effort.”

Dalrymple had served as a distribution foreman for the Buckeye Water District until November. Also, last year, Dalrymple had filed to run for a seat on village council, but opted against it prior to Election Day.

The third permanent administrator to serve under Murray, Dalrymple succeeds Paul Anthony, who served January-November 2016 and Medley, who served for a year prior to his resignation.

Dalrymple is scheduled to provide his first report as administrator at the next council meeting, scheduled 6 p.m. April 3.

Also in personnel matters, council approved two ordinances — one appointing local attorney Charles Kidder as village magistrate, and the other selecting attorney Joey Phillips as a public defender for indigent defendants.

The ordinance approving Phillips as a public defender was retroactive to Feb. 22.

Kidder had been recommended by Murray during the March 6 council meeting, and was approved 6-0. He succeeds Timothy McNicol, who recently was appointed to serve as Columbiana County Municipal Court Judge. McNicol took over for Chris Amato, who stepped down to take care of family medical matters.
