Several appointments approved, four opposed by board

EAST LIVERPOOL — A long list of personnel appointments was approved Monday night by the city school board, most of them unanimously except for four positions opposed by member Richard Wolf.

Following an executive session for personnel, the board voted on 65 certified supplemental appointments recommended by Superintendent Randy Taylor, with Wolf voting against the appointments of Josh Ludwig as varsity football coach and pre-season football and Julie Voorhees as varsity cross country coach and cross country pre-season.

Wolf offered no reason for his opposition to the return of Ludwig or Voorhees to the positions they had already held.

Ludwig will be paid $5,631 for the coach position and $457 for the pre-season post, while Voorhees will earn $3,284 for the coaching position and $422 for the pre-season spot.

Wolf did not oppose Ludwig’s appointment as fall equipment manager at a salary of $1,902 or weight training advisor at $4,128. Nor did he vote against Voorhees’ appointment as swimming coach at a $2,829 salary or as math chair at $457.

Board member Pat Persohn abstained in the voting for Alison Jackson as student council advisor at a salary of $457. Jackson is Persohn’s daughter.

Otherwise, approved unanimously were the following appointments (salary in parenthesis): Nathan Boyd, athletic director ($5,206); Marvin Q. Carter, assistant athletic director ($2,891); Alaina Cornfield, band, extracurricular ($3,804) and band, summer ($2.891); Michelle Smith, band, assistant marching ($2,587) and middle school director ($1,266); Lisa Ensinger, vocal extra-curricular ($1,421); Nate Conley, varsity boys basketball ($5,631); William Miller, reserve boys basketball ($2,891); Bryian Burson, varsity girls basketball ($5,206); Jeffrey Wright, varsity football assistant ( $2,891) and football pre-season ($457); Lori DeMarco, bowling ($2,747); Frank Fisher, conditioning and exercise trainer ($1,314); Tommy Gruhalla, varsity girls soccer ($3,284) and pre-season girls soccer ($457); and Brandy Barton, varsity assistant girls soccer ($1,945) and pre-season girls soccer ($422); Dana Vulgamore, varsity cheerleading advisor ($2,829); Tonyea Roberts, varsity cheerleading assistant ($2,283); and Kristina Moff, color guard/flagline ($1,354).

The board also approved a recommendation for fifth grade students to attend Camp Fitch from Aug. 20-22, with students to pay their own camp fee of $125 and the board to pay the transportation cost of about $2,609, which it has paid in past years.

A number of other advisors, mentors, monitors and class chairs were also approved under personnel matters.
