Officials release identities of mother, son found dead

LISBON — The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the names on Monday of the two people investigators believe were involved in a murder-suicide in Madison Township over the weekend.

The woman was Shirley Ann Davis, 80, state Route 7, Lisbon, who investigators believe was shot by her son, Robert L. Davis, 44, who then turned the gun on himself. The mother was found shot in her bed and her son was found lying beside the bed.

Chief Deputy Kip Dowling said Monday investigators did not locate a note or indication as to what caused Robert Davis to murder his mother or take his own life. Additionally, Dowling said family members who responded to the home and spoke with deputies did not indicate either of them were ill or having problems.

Court records indicate Robert Davis was currently involved in a dissolution of his marriage, a case in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court which was filed in late October.

The newspaper received obituaries for both Shirley Davis and Robert Davis on Monday.

Deputies were called to the home near Beaver Local’s football stadium after people who normally worshipped at the same church with Shirley Davis became concerned when she did not attend Sunday morning. The home was found to be unlocked when EMS from the West Point Fire Department and deputies went inside and located the bodies.
