Johnson issues tax statement

LISBON — As Congress near approval on its rewrite of the nation’s tax laws, U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson of the Sixth District issued a statement touting the plan.

“This is an historic week for the American people,” Johnson wrote. “For the first time in over 30 years, real tax relief and reform will be delivered. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will reduce taxes at every income level, double the standard deduction and child tax credit, and empower businesses to grow and hire more people.”

He continued that the plant allows important deductions for home mortgage interest, student loan interest, and charitable donations remain in place.

“Most importantly, the middle class — hardworking Americans that are too-often left behind — will see tremendous tax relief. This legislation delivers higher wages, lower taxes, bigger take-home paychecks, a simpler and fairer system, and a stronger economy across the board,” Johnson added.
