Hall China, GMP reach labor agreement
EAST LIVERPOOL — Three more years of labor accord have been assured at The Hall China Co. as it reached agreement on a new contract with employees, members of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers Union (GMP) Local 417.
The deal, according to a release issued Monday, impacts 90 workers and their families from East Liverpool and surrounding communities.
Hall China, which operates its own pottery in the East End of the city, is part of Homer Laughlin China Co.
Union President Eric Gorrell and his team worked with Hall China’s parent company, HLC Inc., on the labor contract, “working diligently and truly pressing late into the night as the deadline for the expiring contract drew near,” a release reads.
The new agreement was signed just after midnight Nov. 16.
“We are pleased to have reached a new labor agreement with our Hall China team–a contract that keeps manufacturing for Hall’s high-quality specialty dinnerware right here in East Liverpool where it has been a staple since 1903,” said Elizabeth McIlvain, president of Homer Laughlin. “Although healthcare prices have continued to rise, we were able to reach an agreement that suited both parties. This three-year contract demonstrates that both sides were committed to reaching a consensus.”
