Drug Take- Back Day set for Saturday

EAST LIVERPOOL — The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), is Saturday, Oct. 28, at East Liverpool City Hospital.

Area residents remain in their vehicles and hand off unwanted medications to local law enforcement officers, who will be the only staff handling medications. No requests for identification will be asked. Unwanted capsules or tablets may be kept in their original containers or removed from the original container. If an original container is disposed, try to remove any personal identifying information from the prescription label.

This one-day medication collection effort is being sponsored by the ADAPT Coalition (330-424-0531), Columbiana County Drug Task Force (330-424-0309), local law enforcement jurisdictions, the Columbiana County Health Department (330- 424-0272), Columbiana County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board (330-424-0195), East Liverpool City Health Department (330-385-7900), Family Recovery Center (330-424-1468), East Liverpool City Hospital (330-385-7200), Salem City Health Department (330-332-1618), Salem Regional Medical Center (330-332-7152), and Heritage-WTI.

“These organizations are collaborating on this countywide event to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from people’s homes,” a release states.

Columbiana County residents also may visit the following locations, open 24/7, to dispose of unwanted medications in a locked medication drop-off box at these police departments — no questions asked: Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office, County Home Road, Lisbon; Columbiana Police Department, South Vine Street; East Liverpool Police Department, West 6th Street; East Palestine Police Department, East Main Street; Leetonia Police Department, Main Street; Lisbon Police Department, North Market Street; and Salem Police Department, South Broadway.

The Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) also is a site for the Take-Back Day. It’s held at the Professional Services Building, across from hospital, East State Street.
