Edison BOE approves hirings, resignations

HAMMONDSVILLE — A series of hirings and resignations recently were approved by the Edison Boe of Education.

One-year contracts were awarded to teachers Ellen Swickard, Mikayla Tice, Christina Haught, Dawn Cable, Emily Henry and Marissa Matics, elementary guidance counselor Megan McNear, bus driver Joe Atkins and custodian Jim Still.

Officials also approved the retirements of library aide Donna Swartz on May 31, bus driver Tom Downing on June 1, bus driver Larry Hoover effective July 1 and cook Mary Lynn Ratliff, as well as the resignations and teachers Brittani Richards and Ryan Powell at the conclusion of the current school year.

Among other positions named were supplemental employees Fatima Smuck as preschool director; Jamie Evans, annual report/calendar, district web and social media coordinator and English Department chair; Miguel Brun, early literacy coordinator; Debbie Bickar, head teacher at Stanton; Jennifer Bahen, Evans and Bickar, Summer ECAT; Bahen, Bickar, Evans, Sarah Louda and Monica Potenzini, 2017-18 ECAT; Bahen, Bickar and Potenzini, 2017-18 VLA; Tally Pasiuk, head teacher at John Gregg; JoAnn Stagani, athletic director; Todd Smith, assistant athletic director and varsity track; Derrick Stickles, varsity football and wrestling; Spencer Bendle, assistant varsity football and varsity softball; Melissa Hudson, volunteer football and assistant track; Jeremy Angelo, varsity girls soccer; Aaron Richardson, varsity boys soccer; Mycaela Stewart, varsity volleyball and assistant softball; Tom Bocek, varsity golf and junior high track; Nate Moses, varsity boys basketball; Jeremy Matics, reserve boys basketball and assistant softball; William Koehnlein, elementary wrestling; Gretchen Yanssens, varsity swimming; Jim Benson, assistant track; Mike Collopy, varsity baseball; Nick Howell, assistant baseball and eighth-grade boys basketball; Kodi Peterson, assistant baseball and seventh-grade boys basketball; Sara Evans, eighth-grade volleyball; Justyne Strohmeyer, eighth-grade girls basketball; Andy Lesnansky, volunteer boys soccer; and Jordan Byrley, volunteer girls soccer.

Supplemental co-curricular positions included Marc Sansone, band director (summer/fall) and junior high band and five days extended time for band; Bev Sansone and David Schultz, assistant band directors; Dani Carroll, choral director, junior high choral and senior musical director; Sara Cunningham, senior BETA Club advisor; Jennifer Bahen, junior BETA Club advisor; Jamie Evans, Academic Competition, yearbook and senior class advisor; Dawn Cable, junior class advisor; Jessica McCallister, senior student council advisor; Charles Cline, 45 days extended Vo Ag time; and Leah Eft and Samanda Pepperling, 120 hours extended time for guidance at a per diem rate.

Summer school teachers named were Debbie Bickar, Jordan Byrley, Amber Crawford, Amy Sinicropi, Kathy Stewart and Angela Smith. Also hired were summer speech therapist Chris Somerville; certificated substitute physical education teacher Bobbyjon Bauman; preschool and kindergarten screening workers Sharon Kramarich, Casey Barnhouse, Donna Dawson, Sara Evans, Suzy LoPrete, Diane Wellington, Hannah Eckley, Chris Somerville, Patty Kelley, Mary Trimmer, Tara Bycroft, Cheryl Smith, Marcie Albin and Heather Grimes; non-certified substitute Dusty Grimm as cook/NBC/custodian; and student workers Skylar Fankhauser, Josh Woika, Devyn Carpenter and Kim Wilson with Jeremy Matics and Nick Howell as adult supervisors on the summer paint crew.

In other action, the board:

* Accepted a $500 donation from the Richmond American Legion Post 740 Honored Seven to augment Edison High School’s Kindle technology;

* Approved a tentative high school graduation list and announced the honors banquet on May 21 at 2 p.m. at The Countryside near Richmond; Baccalaureate on May 23 at 7 p.m. at EHS; and graduation on May 26 at 7 p.m. at Franciscan University;

* Approved an agreement for attorney services with the Jefferson County Educational Service Center effective Aug. 1; approved an internet service agreement with OME-RESA; approved new and revised policies; and approved the five-year forecast.

The next board meeting date was set for 7 p.m. June 29 due to scheduling conflicts.
