Trustees select roadways for reclaiming program

WEST POINT — Madison Township trustees earlier this week approved roadways that will be submitted for inclusion in the county’s reclaiming program.

During Wednesday’s meeting, trustees first OK’d a motion to participate in this year’s road reclaimer program, organized annually by the county engineer’s office, and then agreed to submit four-tenths of a mile at McCormick Run Road reclaimed along with four-tenths of a mile of Osbourne Road.

The roadways selected were recommended by Trustee Wayne Chamberlain.

Previously, trustees had submitted a list of 4.95 miles of township roads to be included in the county’s chip-and-sealed summer program. Those roads include 2.1 miles of Cream Ridge Road, 1.1 miles of Black Road, 0.4 mile of Y-Camp Road, 0.15 mile of the Y-Camp Road Hill, 0.3 mile of Bear Hollow Road, 0.5 mile of McCormick Road, and 0.4 mile of Osbourne Road.

The township will meet with the county engineers’ office at 1:30 p.m. Monday, in the county engineer’s office, regarding the road reclaimer program.

In other business:

— Trustees approved a motion to allow road supervisor Gary Mitchell and crew member Hope Hicks to attend a safe road work zone and road closures training 8-10 a.m. April 11 at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds. Organized through the Ohio Department of Transportation, the training also is available to trustees and is of no cost to the township. Chamberlain said he is considering attending.

— In a follow-up from the March 8 meeting, Trustee Chairman Gary Williams said he spoke with Dallis Dawson of Dallis Dawson and Associates, and again clarified that Dawson is not affiliated with any work done by AEP Energy. Also in a correction, Fiscal Officer Tiffany Chetock said that the portion of McCormick Run Road that is being chip-and-sealed has 15 houses on that stretch of road, not two as reported for that meeting.

— Trustees approved a motion to purchase four new office chairs from the Gleico Company at $99 per chair. Chamberlain, who made the motion, said the new chairs will be used once trustees start to utilize the new township garage as a meeting site.

Chamberlain also mentioned about new chairs for those who attend township meetings.

A date and timeframe as to when the meetings would be moved to the new garage has yet to be been undetermined.

— Trustees also approved an agreement between the township and the Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency, which indicated the township would be able to provide services — including but not limited to road closures, setting up signs and barricades, and removing impediments — in the event of an emergency. The agreement is renewed on an annual basis. The township has participated for several years.

— Chetock also reported the township recently received information on payments to be received regarding oil and gas by unit for each township in the county. Chetock said Madison Township would receive a total of $61.18.

The next trustees’ meeting is 6 p.m. April 12.
