WELLSVILLE — Once the weather improves, Yellow Creek trustees and road crews will be receiving assistance in curbing an ongoing dumping problem.

Discussed during Tuesday’s meeting, Trustee Chairman Kenny Biacco reported he recently spoke with Wellsville village officials, and learned members of the village’s street department will be able to help Yellow Creek’s crews in cleanup efforts on 25th Street Heights, which, as of late, has been the site of several dumpings.

Biacco said that while road crews were working on 16th Street and Irondale Road, he decided to take a drive on 25th Street Heights, and noted that more dumping had taken place in that area.

“It’s a mess, it’s actually turning into a dump,” Biacco said.

After his discovery, Biacco spoke with Wellsville Mayor Nancy Murray and Village Administrator Jerry Medley about cleaning up the area. Biacco said both village officials agreed to provide help to the township. According to Biacco, village crews will assist the township road crews in improving that area once the weather improves.

Biacco also reported that he contacted Chief Deputy Allen Haueter of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s office and filed a report regarding the dumping.

Prior to the Dec. 27 meeting, Biacco received a call from a resident, who had reported someone had dumped items off 25th Street Heights, which included furniture, couches, television sets and other garbage. Township road crews were able to clean up the garbage and transfer it to Dailey’s Refuse and Recycling for a small fee.

Trustees also reported dumping complaints in the township earlier this year.

In other matters, Biacco reported he spoke with a resident who looked to set up a 5G cell phone tower on his property, to which trustees wanted to view more information before allowing the tower to be erected.

Biacco reported he planned to talk to the resident the first week of January, but confirmed the planned discussion was postponed, at his request, due to recent discussions with South Field Energy and the upcoming construction of the electric plant. Biacco said he and the owner will look to discuss the matters this week.

The next regular trustees’ meeting is 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the David W. Boyd Meeting Room next to the Yellow Creek Township garage on Oak Ridge Road.
