Ben Cronin, 37, of Salineville, was transported by North Star Ambulance to East Liverpool City Hospital following a single-vehicle crash in a construction zone on state Route 11, north of the Calcutta exit. According to Highway Patrol Trooper Megan Faith, Cronin struck the ODOT sign signaling drivers to move over to the right lane because of construction. Cronin continued to strike the cement retaining wall a couple more times before stopping in the right hand, northbound lane. The large signal sign that Cronin struck landed in the southbound lanes, causing a tie up in both directions during clean-up. Calcutta and Glenmoor firefighters both responded to the crash. Cronin was driving a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country minivan which was not registered to him. Trooper Faith was assisted by Sgt. Scott Louvie at the accident scene. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. (Photo by Patti Schaeffer)
