Retired Hancock County K-9 dies
NEW CUMBERLAND — A longtime and recently-retired member of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit has died.
Jesy, a German shepherd once assigned to sheriff’s Lt. Chuck Stanley, died Saturday morning at home, according to a Facebook post on the Hancock County Canine Unit page.
Stanley said that he was Jesy’s handler from January 2008 until both of them retired in June 2015. The police dog most recently was living with Stanley’s sister and her family.
The Facebook post did not discuss the cause of death or other details — but it received hundreds of responses.
The K-9 Unit currently has three dogs and three handlers.
