Police: Black bear spotted along Campground Road

GLENMOOR — A large bear was sighted over the weekend in the area, but wildlife officials encourage leaving it alone.

The bear, estimated to be about 400 pounds, was found on Campground Road by a St. Clair Township police officer returning home from work.

The officer said he came home to find the trash from his receptacle on the ground and wondered who had been rooting through his garbage. When he looked up, there was the large black bear standing not far from the trash bin.

Although he took a photo of the bear, it came out too blurry to reproduce, the officer said.

When contacted, wildlife officials said its large size indicates the bear is most likely residential, meaning it lives in the immediate area and is not migrating, and should be left alone if encountered.
