Diabetes awareness proclamation

For most students, their school days are filled with classes, activities, sports and lots of snacks, and the same is true of kids with diabetes, but with a lot more attention required to details such as monitoring their blood sugar, administering insulin and maintaining a proper diet. These students at East Liverpool Junior-Senior High School, who deal with diabetes daily, met Wednesday with Mayor Ryan Stovall as he read a proclamation declaring November as Diabetes Awareness Month, relating that the auto immune condition affects 29.1 million people, or 93 percent of the U.S. population, with nearly 8.1 million unaware they have the disease and another 86 million suffering from pre-diabetes. Stovall urged all citizens to learn the risk factors and symptoms of diabetes and provide support in fighting it.
