Glenmoor crash sends two men to hospital

GLENMOOR – For the second time in as many days, Lisbon Street was the scene of a traffic accident late on Wednesday afternoon.

According to St. Clair Township Police Sgt. Steve Brophey, a Jeep Wrangler driven by William White of East Liverpool was headed south on Lisbon Street. Attempting to turn left onto Irish Ridge Road, White pulled into the path of a Ford pickup truck driven by Carl Collins, also of East Liverpool, who was heading north on Lisbon Street.

Brophey said White was at fault in the accident for failure to yield.

Following the collision, Collins’ truck wound up crashing through the wooden fence of a house at the corner, while White’s Jeep was spun around on Lisbon Street.

Police from St. Clair and Liverpool Township departments arrived to find Collins lying on the grass beside his truck and White standing next to his Jeep, with both men having sustained obvious head and leg injuries. Brophey could not say if either driver had been wearing a seat belt.

Collins was taken by North Star Critical Care to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, where he was listed in guarded condition on Wednesday evening. Tri-County Ambulance transported White to the emergency room at East Liverpool City Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Calcutta Towing and First Class Towing cleared the vehicles from Lisbon Street, which was briefly blocked at the Irish Ridge intersection during rush hour.
