Road repair set for June

EAST LIVERPOOL – Resurfacing and repair work of several primary streets in the city is set to get underway in mid-June after final plans were made during a pre-construction meeting Thursday at City Hall.

Planning Director Bill Cowan said the tentative construction start-up date was set for June 16 for resurfacing Fifth, Sixth and Walnut streets downtown and repair of the city’s portion of Parkway.

The $1,285,217 contract was recently awarded to R.T. Vernal of North Lima by the Board of Control, with Jobe Henderson and Associates to serve as on-site inspector.

The company has 90 days to complete the project, weather permitting, and Cowan said Thursday it expects to meet that deadline.

City Council recently agreed to secure a loan for the city’s 20 percent share of the project with repayment from 2 mills of the 5-mill street levy voters approved that began collection this year.

The remaining 80 percent of the project cost is being paid by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

City officials have not yet announced which streets will be repaired or repaved this year with the remaining 3 mills of the levy, which are earmarked for neighborhood streets.
