Firefighters bring carnival atmosphere to village

WELLSVILLE – Workers from Premium Shows of America were busy on Tuesday setting up rides and concessions at Nicholson Stadium for the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Fireman’s Homecoming, which runs today through Saturday at the 20th Street practice field in the village. Carnival hours are from 6-10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 6-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The concession stand at the south end of the ball field will feature the famous “firehouse dog” and french fries, plus other fried festival favorites.

There will be a drawing to win a pair of children’s bicycles, one girl’s and one boy’s, plus numerous other games on the midway. Bingo games will be played, with six cards for $1. Tickets for rides, including a traditional merry-go-round and bumper cars, can be purchased individually, or visitors can purchase a wristband for $20 that gives access to every ride for the whole evening.

The climax of the event will be fireman’s parade at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Wellsville’s fire trucks and other participants will line up at 4 p.m. on Broadway Avenue between Second and Third streets. The route will turn left onto Third, then right onto Main Street, where it will continue to 17th Street before turning left onto Clark Avenue to the practice field, where prizes will be given in various classes.
