Mechanic, foreman approved by commission
EAST LIVERPOOL – Two permanent appointments were approved Wednesday night by the Civil Service Commission, which met at the Mary Patterson Building of Kent State University.
Commission members approved the appointment of Herman “Pete” Flowers as mechanic, effective March 10, at an hourly salary of $16.85 and of Harry Williamson as distribution foreman, effective March 17, at $17.08 per hour.
They also approved retiring eligibility lists for police patrolman and police chief, with no new tests requested at this time.
After the brief business meeting, the commission administered a competitive exam for firefighter, with 25 people sitting for the test. Fire Chief William Jones was also present.
Jones has said that, while City Council has earmarked $60,000 for the hiring of one firefighter, he expects possibly as many as three could be hired due to upcoming retirements from the department.
Results of the test will be reported at a later date.
