Bailey announces run for commissioner

LISBON – The other Democratic candidate for Columbiana County commissioner is Salem resident Dan Bailey.

Bailey, who ran unsuccessfully for Salem City Council last year as an independent, recently issued a news release announcing his run for commissioner three weeks after filing his candidacy petitions with the county elections board.

Bailey, in his release, said that as the owner of a small business in downtown Salem he understands the need for developing a welcoming business climate that not only helps existing businesses but also attracts new industries.

“Furthermore, I see the positive effects these businesses have on their immediate surroundings, especially in our downtown districts. Beyond simply keeping our money local, attracting high-quality, high-tech industry to our area will help stimulate our community without outside funds,” he said.

Bailey owns and operates Game On! Video Games and More in Salem, and as such frequently participates in the annual International Consumer Electronics Show. Bailey said he has the contacts and connections with business in the computer and electronics industry that would prove beneficial should he be elected.

“It is important to know that by voting for Dan Bailey you are not only voting for my own personal experiences and knowledge gained from the years of entrepreneurship in our county, but also the collective expertise of all the opinions that I can bring to the table,” Bailey said.

In addition to his video game business, Bailey said he is also an owner of the Western Reserve Scourge, a semi-pro football team in Poland. He and his wife Brandi have been married for eight years.

He is running the May 6 Democratic primary against Nathan Walker of Salem, with the winner facing off in the November general election against incumbent Republican Mike Halleck, who is unopposed in the GOP primary.
