Store expansion approved

LISBON – A village convenience store recently received approval to proceed with a proposed expansion.

The village zoning board agreed last month to approve a variance request from Ashraf Isaac, owner of the Valley View II convenience store located at the corner of North Market and Jerome streets.

Isaac wants to build an L-shaped extension onto the southern end of the store, which he will use to expand his offerings, including the addition of a hot-food bar. The new addition will also include a drive-up window that would exit to the south onto Sherman Street.

The store is located in an area zoned B-2, which restricts construction to within 40 feet of the rear setback line and 30 feet from the side property line. Zoning Board secretary Alisa Gostey said Valley View’s proposed expansions fails to meet both buffer requirements, which is why Isaac needed a variance to proceed.

All property owners within 200 feet were notified as required, but only one showed up at the meeting. Gostey said the only concern voiced by that person was they hoped Isaac would do a better job keeping the store property mowed.

Gostey said the board, of which she is a member, voted 5-0 to grant the variance, with the stipulation Isaac complete the work within one year. Also voting in favor were Dick Henthorne, Ryan Hillman, Mike Ours and Stosh Marshalek.
