Application period opens for Tuition Mission
EAST LIVERPOOL – The Tri-State Area Tuition Mission Foundation (TMF, and formerly Dollars for Scholars®) is opening its annual application period on Friday, Feb. 15 and will run through April 15. Students may apply if they reside in any of the seven districts served by TMF. These include districts in eastern Ohio (Beaver Local, East Liverpool and Wellsville), western Pennsylvania (Midland, South Side and Western Beaver) and northern West Virginia (Oak Glen). Students in non-traditional settings, such as online schools or those who are being home-schooled, are also eligible to apply for TMF funding as long as they reside within one of the aforementioned districts.
The application can only be filled out online at TuitionMission.net. Applicants should click on the home page on the “Apply for a Scholarship” link at the top. If applicants have in front of them the prior year’s tax information, it takes less than 15 minutes to complete the process.
The Foundation was launched in 1962 and made its first awards in 1963. Jackman S. Vodrey, who has been involved with the Foundation for over five decades, has served as its President since 1992. Catherine S. Vodrey has served as Vice-President since 2005. In the 56 years since the first awards were made, TMF has made over 5,550 scholarships totaling over $6.9 million.
TMF makes tuition awards for any education beyond high school — two-year or four-year degree programs at any accredited college or university, vocational or technical training, a certification or licensure program or graduate school. For the 2018-2019 academic year, TMF made tuition awards totaling a little over $284,950 to 56 students. The top award was $6,000/student, which the majority of students received.
“We ask our recipients to start repaying their awards within a few months of graduating or discontinuing their education,” Catherine Vodrey explains. “The good news is that all our awards are 100 percent interest-free, and past recipients set their own repayment rates.”
Applicants will find out whether or not they’re receiving funding in late May or early June.
