CALCUTTA — A benefit pasta dinner for Lauren Thomas — a Beaver Local High School volleyball player who suffered a stroke July 14 while at YSU volleyball camp — is 4-7 p.m. today at the Beaver Local K-12 Campus, Bell School Road. Cost is $8 for adults, and $6 for senior citizens and ages 12-under. Carryout available. Also planned are 50-50, Chinese raffle and T-shirt and wristband sales.

CALCUTTA — The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center, Echo Dell Road, is open 1-5 p.m. each Saturday-Sunday in August.

In addition, the following events are scheduled in August: “Stargazing and Meteor Showers” activity, 9-11 p.m. Aug. 11; “Tracks, Scat, and Splat” program, 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 18; and “Animal Tracks,” a family activity, 1-4 p.m. Aug. 26.

COLUMBIANA — Ohio State University Alumni Club of Columbiana County annual family picnic and student send-off is 6 p.m. Aug. 9 at Columbiana Firestone Park, Pavilion 4. Hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, beverages, condiments and table service provided. Those attending bring covered dish and serving utensil.
